I have been trying to find the right words to share regarding all the tragedies of the past couple of weeks. I’ve been asking myself, how do you find the right words? I have been debating about talking about grief, about healing, or simply not talking about any of it. I decided not talking about the tragedies of lives lost in my home city, my nation, and this world where we all live was not the choice I could make. The choice I could make was to talk about Hope.
Hope is all we have. Hope to heal, Hope to forgive, Hope for a difference, Hope for love, and Hope for peace. I decided I would start with Hope.
Is hope enough? No, of course not. We need action to make a difference. But when we do not have hope we have despair. We have powerlessness. We have helplessness. We have hopelessness. Those are words that do not describe action. They describe inaction; feelings of being frozen and stuck in anger and fear.
No, that is not what we need. We need Hope. Hope is a word, that is both a noun and verb. It is a word that allows for action and emotion. This is what we need today, because doing nothing is no longer an option.
I’m not going to tell you what actions you need to take. That is a choice only you can make. I hope, you will not make the choice to move towards despair. That you know that you have a voice, a choice, a stand, and a hope. This is what I hope, because the killing, the racism, the hate, and the cruelty needs to stop. Let’s be the world who did it better, who got it right. I want to be a part of that world. A world filled with hope.
